The home of the Gold Rush, Placerville saw tremendous growth in the mid 1800’s, first as Dry Diggins and more famously as Old Hangtown. At the peak of the Gold Rush, Hangtown was the 3rd largest city in California, and is a registered California Historical Landmark.

Placerville offers residents the best in country living, and is known for its natural beauty and multitude of outdoor activities, including whitewater rafting on the American River, camping and boating on nearby Jenkinson Lake, destinations such as Ice House and Union Valley Reservoirs, and off-roading on the world famous Rubicon Trail.

Apple Hill, famous for its many fall season festivities, is home to over 50 apple and fruit farms, wineries, bakeries and Christmas Tree farms. The area features award winning wineries including Boeger, Lava Cap and David Girard Vineyards, as well as a diverse selection of micro-breweries and restaurants. A family friendly community, residents enjoy great schools, sporting activities, farmers markets, as well as the annual county fair.

Placerville is home to the Placerville Speedway, which hosts auto racing events throughout the spring and summer, and is recognized as one of the most exciting dirt tracks in the country.
